My First Detector

February 04, 2006
My brother has a very expensive "White". He told me this was a "nice rig". You can't go wrong with the price either. I have found it to be accurate on type and depth of object.

A good detector!

For the money it is the best kept secret for a person looking for a good detector on a buget. I would rate is right up with the Tesoro Compadre (a little more plastic is used and it might not get as much depth). For the price, it does a lot. Touch pads puts you in control. A meter with target ID and depth readout. Very easy to use and finds coins in any ground I have used it on.

Lots of fun

October 16, 2005
What a fun way to get off the couch and get out doors. I recieved my 1100 as a gift and I can see why people like this model. It is easy to use with little to master to use correctly. I have used it for about six hours on two trips afield and it has been very accurate on the metal type ID and the depth.

Like everything else that I purchase and don't know anything about; I try to educate myself and find out about it on the Internet before I go spending any money. About 4 months ago when I decided I wanted a detector;I hit the web and did some research. My research told me that ALL models from ALL companys do pretty much the same thing. The only noticeable difference was price, ergonomics, and whether or not you wanted to put your detector under water, and what you might be hunting for. Since they all did the same thing with only slight differences, and one name brand meant nothing more to me than another; I decided to make a selection based on what was inportant to me. I wanted a detector from a name that I could trust. I wanted good ergonomics, and I wanted my controls to be simple and readable in a LCD format. Lastly, I wanted to detect anything and everything that's in the ground and I didn't want to pay alot. To make a long story short, I went to my local Radio Shack, purchased the BOUNTY HUNTER "Discovery 1100", and have been thrilled with it ever since!

Despite the cold weather these past few months, I've been out several days a week and for several hours a day. I've searched beaches, fields and yards. I find the Discovery 1100 to 95% accurate on its target depth indicator. As for it's target identifier; its accuracy is no better or worse than any other model (of any brand)out there.

It's a very accurate, light weight, sturdy, user friendly, and a fun detector to use. I bought it NEW and paid less than $90.00 for it and would NOT trade it for a model costing five times as much! It's just THAT good; and I'd recomend it for anyone. P.S. KEEP THE HOBBY ALIVE & WELCOMED BY LAND OWNERS. IF YOU DIG A HOLE, BE SURE TO COVER IT UP. (I want to come behind you later on and dig what you missed!).

A good intro to the hobby.

December 30, 2004
Found my 1100 at the local Radio Shack on Sale for Christmas.
Users Guide very easy to read (I read it twice
on the bus ride in and home from work 25 mins each way).
BH/D1100 is very easy to assemble.
Easy to operate has led display on targets 0-6"
and target types Silver/Copper, Gold/Middle, Iron/Low
My only complaint is that it appears to have about a 6" horizontal orbit around the search coil that detects playground equipment and rebar in cement. Once I learned that I see this as being a very useful tool in a treasure hunting hobby. I would recommend this to anyone new to the hobby as a way to get a intro at a lower cost.
