Rs discovery 1000 great !!!

I purchased a Radio Shack Discovery 1000 for 30 bucks. It is basically the
same detector as the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV and the Bounty Hunter Pioneer
101. These detectors are really good at searching in trash using the tone
feature. I hunted today and used tone and only dug the high tones. It
cherry picked coins out of some really serious trash areas. I have other
brands that will go deeper but they won't do as good as this one in heavy
pull tab locations. I like the little thing. It's lightweight and the
sounds are crisp and clear. Great beginner unit, or a backup machine, or a
trashy cherry picker.

I bought this unit last week. I have gotten almost 5 days out of a set of
batteries. This is a GREAT beginners unit or even a time killer for the
family. I have found the steering wheel out of a tractor.. .. batteries..
. nails belt.. . buckles. A lot of pop tops and beer caps though really
no way of sorting them out. I have found around 2 bucks in change but no
old coins this area is not rich in history. I have used it in all sorts of
terrain and been pleased with it. Very happy with the price of the unit as
far as performance.

Good for money/beginners

I bought this detector thinking it was going to be worth my money, well boy
I was wrong. After buying I realized that the settings and everything are
too simple, you need more information like what it is just not iron or
silver. Anyway I wouldn't recommend this thing to anyone, however I have
found some things with it: and old 1800's swiss army knife and an old
fence, its also very hard to pinpoint. If I were you I would just go and spend the 250 bucks and get the Ace 250 instead its a way better detector.
DON T BUY THIS MODEL!

i live in the art museum area of philadelphia, pa. my daughter rescued a
dog in our neighborhood and now Charlie is mine. looking for something to
do while walking Charlie, i thought about metal detectors (md's). one
evening a guy was walking to his front door carrying a md. i asked him
about it and his reply was "it's been in my closet since the baby was born
(apprx 2 yrs ago). it works great. would you like to have it"? i said no
(just kidding), brought it home, put 2 9v's in it and i'm soon off and
detecting. the reviews for this model(Discovery 1000)via the web are
positive along with its simplicity and reported effectiveness is why i'm
giving it 3 stars without having used it yet.. i'm now looking forward to
the next 100,000+ person event to find what others have left behind because
I wish i had this md 2 years ago after the "save africa/aids/food for
free"(or something like that)and 1,000,000 people had visited 3 blks from
my house. WHAT A SCORE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN!!!Overall Rating

I have had this detector for several years. Easy to use with its automatic
balancing. A $10.00 swap meet special. I have used it in all conditions,
mountain soil, playgrounds, lake sand and water and even in salt water -
Puget Sound, WA. Found gold and silver rings, and silver coins. If I can't
hear the sound I watch the analog meter. I don't use earphones as I often
hunt in the forest and Bears and Cougars have been sighted.

What can one say but that a detector do and preform as wanted I have gotten
from this machine more than expected. Have I found a wealth of treasures
yes and no. I love the detector and enjoyed using it ? U better believe
that I will suggest that a Discovery 1000 be used as 1 & only or as a 2nd
back up detector. It Is a great beginner unit. thx's
