Minelab Golden Hawk
SELou in USA -
As an exploration geologist,I needed a very good VLF machine for a prospect in the Gold Belt of Georgia that had complex sulphides, primarily pyrite, mixed in with gold in quartz stringers. After trying two popular hobby detectors an associate suggested I try the Minelab Golden Hawk. Finally a quality detector! The GH is built and operates like a piece of professional geophysical equipment. The unit I used had both the 8" and 15" coils. It uses a real rechargable battery that lasts all day, not sure how long it holds a charge, because I would recharge each night.
The headphones that came with the unit were adeqate to detect and discriminate between surface trash, metallic sulphides and disseminated gold within the saprolitic soils and weathered rock. I was able to identify the areas within the quartz stringers that showed promise. Just for grins, I ran the GH along an adjacent creek bed to see if it would pick up placer gold, it did.
Super machine, but be warned, it is not a toy, and weighs more than most other VLH units; the 12-volt Gel battery alone weighs more than one of the hobby units I tried.
