Minelab Sovereign GT
April 05, 2006
I have owned the GT now for around 6 weeks and have used it on the beach
and also inland on my farm, I also own several other detectors including
Minelab Explorer 11, Whites MXT, Fisher CZ3D and a Pulsepower Deepstar 3,
all of these machines have their strengths and weaknesses, but I must be
honest the GT is a very good all round machine that can be used in most
soil conditions, and at the beach with no compromise in performance, it has
one the smoothest thresholds that I have ever used, and if I had to choose
one detector for doing it all this would be at the top of my list.Best Regards
Bryan

Minelab GT
March 25, 2006
I have been beachcombing beaches near the 1715 Fleet, which is in south
Florida. I have used several machines, including the 1280x, but found the
GT is the best for the conditions in that area. The only problem I have is
why Minelab didn't make the housing, connections, and switches waterproof?
Everyone I know owns either an Excalibur or 1280x. Both are great machines
if used correctly, but the GT offers some features not found on most
machines.

Sovereign Elite Pro
March 18, 2006
I have a Sovereign Elite Pro. It has decent depth in all soils, especially
extreme mineralization soils, but you need a good shovel to pinpoint
targets found. I bought a 12.5 inch Excellerator coil so it could go as
deep (or sometimes deeper) than my other machines, but I still need a probe
to pinpoint. It does very, very well on small iron, but not very well on iron or steel larger than 3". It is almost worthless in a park or a ball field with many targets to maneuver around in, but it is excellent at a salty beach or a big, older field or other wide open area. It doesn't work well on smaller-than-coin-sized objects, or "cherry-picking".
Out of all my 15 metal detectors, the Compass Scanner finds smaller gold jewelry , brass, copper, or lead items the best. I own a Fisher cz-70, Compass Scanner (relic and coin), White's Coinmaster 6000 di Pro, 2 older Compasses, a Tesoro Tejon, two older Tesoro Gold and silver Sabers, my Sovereign, and of many others too. My best all-around machine is the cz-70, and if I want to nugget hunt, my Compass Scanner would be the best all-around machine, bar none.

Less trash and more coins
February 01, 2006
Sovereign GT is very easy to use and the disc and notch adjustments really
help eliminate most of the trash. I have yet to dig up anything ferrous in
disc mode, and pull tabs and crown caps are now at a minimum. The soil in
my area is highly mineralized but the GT is very stable and works great
even in the really trashy spots. Simply said, less trash and more coins.

GT is GreaT
January 01, 2006
I have now played some more, even tested a GTI 2500, tried one then ran the
other over it etc etc.The GTI has heaps of settings but I find it is heavy, too many false signals and will not isolate the targets, the GT reassures me every time to dig where as the GTI is a bit wishy washy.
I have decided to keep the GT as its a more positive machine and with the sun ray probe its deadly in pin pointing the target.
Its great to have the flash screens etc but I only want to know if I should waste my time digging. the GT's iron disc works very well (better than the GTI).
I am surprised as I was going to keep the GTI as on paper it is unbeatable but to test them side by side, there is only one choice for me.

GT is for great
December 27, 2005
Hi, I have just tested a GT, with the following spec's Sun ray intruder 12
dd coil, minelab meter, sun ray s1 target probe.I have owner and tested several early models and also a garrett infinium (poor quality shaft setup).
Now the GT, its a beast, it out performed all. I found 2 three pence at 5 to 6" these coins are silver and are 16mm x 1mm. it not only clearly found them but was very clear on identification, either via the meter or tone.
They look hard to use but are simple, as you can see all the controls at once and don't have to scroll through a menu.
It will also detect a dollar coin at over a foot deep in the back yard (its my test piece.
It is also the only one rated to use on the gold fields as well.
