I received this today and I am absolutely shocked at how badly this
detector is made. I honestly started laughing when I opened the box. First,
the coil is very strange. The top of the coil is filled with epoxy. The
bottom is the rough plastic type on most detector coils. I thought they
put this together upside down. Evey other detector I own, the hard plastic
is the top of the coil and the bottom is filled with epoxy.
There is a cheap, cheap plastic stem on the coil that gets inserted into the lower part of the shaft. It was too tight to fit into the shaft without it being lubed. Once the shaft was all together, it wobbled like crazy. Ridiculous.
Finally, I went to put the batteries in, wow, what a mess. You need literally pry open the earphone, and the thin, lose wires are all over the place in there. There is no battery holder. You need to find a way to cram everything back inside and snap the headphone shut. I can see this breaking the earphone and wires inside in no time. Now, I turn it on and it's nothing but chatter. No matter what I did with the disc control or where I took the machine, it would not stop chattering. This is seriously a horrible, horrible detector.
What a shame because the concept of the guts in the earphones is brilliant. This would even make a bad toy. It almost seems like a toy, a bad, cheap toy. Needless to say, this is getting returned first thing tomorrow morning.
