I have the UL-2 the original Industrial model that I picked up On feebay on
the cheap. And with little out of pocket expenses I have a great detector,
today I played in the yard that has been scoured by my other detectors, I
pulled two modern quarters, two modern dimes, and three zinc's plus two
.177 cal. pellets in thirty minutes! All were in clay and under the topsoil
average depth of 9 inches and all had a great tone in the phone's.
I bought it for relic hunting and in that field all targets should be dug. So I don't even look at the meter while hunting. I run first in low to find the trash and then I can kick it into high gear tweak the knob, a point I have to make, This unit has two controllers on/off threshold and the other is high, medium, low. Power output that's pretty simple and to set the ground balance just pull the toggle switch under the meter head on top of the hand grip. And go!
I don't believe that one brand of detector is better and or best I only want what works best for the task at hand. And I will say this. If you want to get down to the relic depth's and don't mind digging do yourself and your wallet a favor and try one out. The tone's are discernible! You just have to spend the time and learn to listen for the slight change in the pitch. The older detectors used the same audio and those guys, Mainly the ones that we buy from did pretty well with them.
Another thing I enjoy about this no frills machine is running for a long time before tripping the ground balance switch. This allows for the operator to focus on the site and possible target areas. A good set of headphones with stereo/mono are a must. The last and most notably the best statement is you can use any blue maxima search coil with this unit giving a wide range of hunting scenario's as far as depth go's I bagged two clad quarters in 9 inches and I was in the low setting. Can't wait to get back on my relic site and crank it up!

I have used this machine for the past 4 years and love it. It's easy to use
and adjust. I have found lots of coins and a few gold rings. Very fun
machine to use.
