Excellent deep-seeking machine!
Initially I set the machine up using the Auto-ground function, the 'power knob' was set just so I could hear a very faint hum, discrimination was set to 2 (just at the edge of the red segment) and off I went... The field is full of Iron and scrap so I wasn't surprised when the machine started chattering dull, low tones.
Then just a couple of minutes in I hit a lovely high-pitched clear, crisp target and boom, around 8 inches down lay a lovely George III c.1771 penny. I continued for a few hours and ended up with several pre-decimal coins, flat buttons and a few buckles. I did dig a few targets that were a bit 'scratchy' just so I knew how the machine was performing. The scratchy targets were mostly ring-pulls or bits of lead and after just an hour or so were easily recognizable.
I've been out on a few rallies with my club since and a lot of my detecting buddies were impressed with the performance of the Golden Mask too. My machine came with the 12" DD coil which is super sensitive. There are other coils available I believe but I'm more than happy with the one fitted. So, if you are considering buying a Golden Mask detector don't be put off by them being made in Bulgaria or because they're relatively new and unknown... They are excellent, deep-seeking detectors!
I've kept my ACE 250 as a back-up machine, but I'll be replacing it with the Golden Mask 1 (UK edition) in the very near future as by all accounts these too are excellent. Hope that helps, happy hunting!

Golden mask 4 ,what a great buy.
Build quality amazing, solid machine and surprisingly light weight and simple to use. Carbon fiber shafts are light and sturdy. I used recommended settings, auto ground balance, disc turned to the red 2 segment, and power which is sensitivity, I only needed to turn up to 7, and I set it at multiple tones, high for good signals and low for iron. These settings were all completed by a simple couple of turns of the potentiometer knobs and only took seconds to do.
The coil I use is a standard supplied coil not the the SEF that a lot of people use but I dare say the SEF coil would be a good option or the future. I went to a field I had been on many times with my other detectors the only one that I had NOT used on this same field was the cscope R1. Well I was honesty amazed at this things performance, it punches deep and is so accurate it is unbelievable.
It is true what they say it has lightning recovery speed at separating iron and the good stuff and at amazing depth, I CAN ONLY COMPARE THE DEPTH TO THE MINELAB XS as being near it. To be honest I actually think the GM4 PUNCHES slightly deeper and has a faster recovery speed. I was actually getting really tired at having to dig so many good targets and found some good stuff, too much to list on here. I just could not believe my other detectors with their digital displays had missed all these good targets in the same field.
I honestly did not not miss the digital display or numbers at all, in fact I was glad to see the back of them as I feel after been detecting for over twenty years that it is all about the sound, I have found that even with display machines, I still relied on the sound when out detecting and very seldom looked at the display numbers as 9/10 they were usually well wide of the mark anyway including the depth gauge, I have found that display detectors just use up more battery life.
Don't get me wrong, I loved my ace 250 and xterra, and really loved my cscope R1, the only reasons I changed are too long to list here, its just that where I live there are too many hot rocks being iron stone and coke all over the place, due to its mining and industrial history. This GM4 single 18Khz frequency not the smaller dual frequency one is so light and easy to use it is just brilliant, only down side so far is that I still have to get a rain cover for it, although my home made one is working a treat for now anyway.
I am not going to lie to anyone reading this that if I had more disposable cash I would definately have opted for a minelab CTX3030 or an XP Deus or the Whites Spectran or even an AT PRO, or as for me these are the creme de monf of detectors and I'm sure that everyone would agree with me on here but at less than a quarter of the cost of these big machines and the depth I'm getting I can only say that I am well pleased with this GM4'S performance thus far.
The light weight and really long battery life are also an added bonus when you are detecting all day. Pin pointing is easy by SIMPLY X THE TARGET and IS very very accurate, ONLY machine that has came close to the GM4 pin pointing ability is the CSCOPE R1.
Great machine, cheap to buy here in the UK, very deep 15 inches on a coin, light weight, strong sturdy build quality, great battery life and the batteries can be replaced in seconds. This is my honest opinion of this machine so far. Go and buy one for yourself and you will not be disappointed.

Giant killer, and then some!
The disc. Is also deep, and on two tone it makes no mistakes even if the iron is quite large, you still get the low tone for iron.
Build quality is first class, the arm cup and top tube is aluminium and coated with a very hard textured coating, possibly epoxy, the intermediate tube and bottom tube is made from wrapped carbon-fibre, very tough and very light, makes the machine light and easy to use for hours, who offers this in U.S.A.?, you have a tone from high to a lower tone,(your choice),the disc. Knocks out iron or indicates iron with low tone ( there is an iron-red block on 2), this is as high as I need to go to totally indicate iron, sensitivity, even on zero, gets a depth of around 7 inches on an English penny (iron clad )giving a positive/negative, so you know its a target worth investigating, ( I use this on zero at the beach in salt wet, a little chatter but you know when you hit a good target ), but at 9 or 10 ( if you can get there)very sparky, will pick up coins in air at 15 inches plus depending on size and conductivity, and this is an 8 x 6 coil?
In any ones book this is a workhorse of a machine and was built to give the fastest recovery speed possible, which incidentally sounds like a machine gun when separating iron from good targets, I have a whites MXT pro, with a 12 x 10 S.E.F. Coil which I love and rate highly, but I know the GM 4 (at 18 kz )is more productive on iron infested Roman sites, and £ for £ its a giant killer and for 1/10th the price of a 3030.
So if you don't work underwater, then buy one, but whatever you use, this machine will make you wish you still had your old silver sabre.
To reiterate, technology has changed, and with low noise technology. This guy gives you a chance at restoring your confidence in a type of machine that you were always familiar with, yeah, just try it ,I aint lyin !,,L.B.
