Shadow x2 is a keeper
April 10, 2014
I recently purchase a Troy Shadow X2 with the 7 and 9 inch coils as a
backup. I have been a display machine user for a long time now and I admit
that I was getting really spoiled and display and multi tone dependent. I
had a financial issue that caused me to have to sell one of my detectors
and I decided to keep the X2 and get back to the basics. I think it has
made me a better detectorist because I have a tendency to dig more iffy
targets and reap the rewards even though my trash targets have increased.
I dug two Rosies in the same hole from a sidewalk strip last week and a 1902 IH from my pounded, hunted out park this week. I knew they were there but it was my first IH at that park after years of hunting. I am a fan of this machine for several reasons. It is plenty deep for the type of detecting I do (coinshooter) and I love the coin check when I need to do a quick hunt for some clad. I also love the fact that the detector weighs next to nothing.
I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and I can't swing a heavy machine for very long without joint pain. I can swing the X2 all day and then some. The X2 is a winner and I will be using it as my every day machine now. I know many will not believe this but I have a video to prove it. I took the X2 to a church where my friend has a coin garden that has been there a couple of years now. The X2 hit all three coins on Sensitivity of 8 and Discrimination of 3. The coins are: IH at 6", Silver Dime at 10" and Silver Quarter at 12"
Max Depth: 12 inches on US quarter

Troy x2
April 24, 2013
This is a firsthand / very first time ever being in contact with a metal
detector and use of, review of my expierience with the Troy X2 Shadow,
purchased used in like new condition ( is 14 yrs old ). Originally produced
from 1998 to 1999.
This particular Troy model was the First original Troy metal detector of which there were two versions. The original model X2 and an improved version that had a different design coil that was called a "spider" coil. It has a discriminate setting, sensitivity, coin check, and pinpoint. After reading the operation manual which is still kept available on the Troy Detector website and is 36 pages, extremely interesting, very educating, informative, and very well written.
I performed the air tests and verified its operation and familiarized myself for the first time with a detector. Let me tell you!!! Amazing! Flawless! I tried this unit out today for the very first time and found all kinds of stuff on my property around my house here in rural S/W Wisconsin.... 5 Older coins, an antique copper lamp accent part, an old fire type iron, pretty big one too! And a couple of old buttons. What a Rush!
Its performance was outstanding. Its ability to learn to be used was effortless! Durability, design, and aesthetics is outstanding. All I can say is. Thank You Troy, for such a fine, reliable, UNBELIEVABLY ACCURATE, and so easy to use instrument. It is exceptional, and as a first timer with an X2 I can only imagine whats in store on future hunts and the possibilities to come with any of your products. Hands down!!! Its a Troy!!!
I personally would never have it any other way and would not even consider any other manufacturer after my initial experience with your product. Exceptional customer service too!!! Thanks again and Happy Hunting from S/W Wisconsin!
