Great machine for the money

February 07, 2021
I've had my atx for about a year now. I live by the mouth of the Columbia river and decided to do a test. Here we have 100 percent pure solid black sand on the beach in places, I was able to detect a quarter about 3 inches which is fabulous for this type of ground, I have 4 vlfs and they couldn't touch it, wouldn't work at all, the atx is the first detector I've seen that would actually detect a coin in such adverse conditions,

I had to turn disc up almost all the way to achieve this. Also people are complaining about falsing, well, for 1 don't wear shoes that have metal in them, also here in WA state we have some of the hottest ground in the country, when you hit a hot spot, you get a signal, so rebalance the detector if the signal goes away its a hot spot, if yer not sure dig it.

This machine is awesome if you know how to use it. I found a 1920 walking liberty half dollar about a foot deep in the woods and a 1940 silver quarter close to it, I worked this area before many times with a at pro and never got a signal, but don't get me wrong at pro is a good machine.
I also found a 10 inch cannonball 2ft. deep with the atx in a area that I combed many times before with the at pro and a 15 inch nel attack coil attached and never got a hit, overall the atx is a super detector with super depth if ya know how to use it the atx will hit a pop can over 3 ft. I buried a brand new quarter 12 inches deep, and detected it at 14 inches, no head phones.

Gold country rivers

March 25, 2018
I bought my new ATX recently after weeks of searching utube reviews. High water washed boulders off bedrock here that's been buried since the 49er gold rush. My AT Gold was good but bedrock has massive amount of magnetite. River too high yet but tests show the ATX is responding to something deep in cracks. Found small pieces of lead but this detectors reporting on something deeper than I can get to without breaking bedrock. Going to be fun opening the cracks. Love this metal detector. I'm 75, less than average size and have no problem handling the ATX.

Is as overpriced as is complete disaster on the field I used it vor 5 months and was depression nearby I sold it with 1000 euro loss so happy I was to get rid of it!

First of all: iron check only works till 25 CM! And even then it only works for bigger iron It's the perfect cramm detector in European fields Yes you dig some stuff out on iron crap! Sometimes a coin appears between the iron piles Ground balance never worked properly Electric powerlines everywhere disturbed Coil constantly flipped after a month use Cable in shaft gets out of shape so it didn't fit anymore properly after a few times coil change Included swing harness is crap: after a few weeks it' was totaly outreached so I have to buy an extra minelab harness just to have a decent one!

After 2 months: the shaft steel didn't shuffle good anymore. The attachment of the coil began to sweep after 2 months: extra in combination with the flipping coil Extremely heavy detector!!! Yes it goes deep that's true!!! But also at a piece of iron After 3 holes of 80 cm for a rusty piece of junk in 30°C: your search day is over believe me.

Great for nugget hunting and beach detecting

November 06, 2014
I'm very happy with the Garrett ATX, the more I use it the more I am impressed. I have used other pulse induction units at a particular beach and they were unusable due to the EMI. My ATX takes it in stride and smoothly detects this beach without any noise at all. The weight is only an issue if you fully extend the coil and don't use the harness. I hardly ever use the harness, don't need to.

The battery life is great! I can get two long days of detecting from one charge and this thing seems to be very scratch resistant for plastic! The iron ID works very well to weed out most nails and bottle caps but some get through. I have dug many small items very deep in the beach sand, it can be exhausting ,)

Excellent metal detector! Using the 12" DD coil, I found some coins as deep as 18" on the beach in Ocean City Maryland. I have found all kinds small metal items buried deep in the sand... The detector did a great job with only minor sensitivity changes in scanning the beach. True that this unit is a little heavy but if you adjust the length to your shoe instead of extending it all the way, you find the weight isn't a big deal. Wish they lower the cost of the small mono coil... That would be a nice one to have. I have the 20" Deepseeker.... Nice!

We finally had a chance to test one of the New Garrett ATX's. We took it gold nugget hunting out in the Nevada desert. We have to tell you we we're very impressed. It handled the mineralized ground with ease. It had no problem with EMI's. It was extremely easy to ground balance and very easy to use.
One of our biggest concerns was with the search coil. Being hinged in the back instead of the center like all other coils we wondered if it would stay in place. That turned out to be no issue at all. The coil stayed firmly in place in whatever position we set it.

We did manage to find a 1.5 gram gold nugget at 5 inches. We buried a 1/2 gram gold nugget at 3 inches and the ATX had no problem locating it. The gentleman that complained about the weight must not have been using the carrying strap correctly. We thought it did a good job of taking the weight off of your arm. After running the Garrett ATX through our tests we have to tell you we're giving it a 10 out of 10. The New ATX appears to be as good as advertised. We can't wait for our next trip in a month so we can get back out with our New Garrett ATX Pulse Induction Metal Detector.

ATX looking for gold

February 18, 2014
I was in Arizona in Jan. 2014 picked a new ATX from Arizona Outback with a days training. I also have a AT Gold, I was able to find 4.5 grams of gold over a weeks time. ATX was easy to use easy to adjust. The coil was standard double D, ground was very dry, hard and most finds we're 8 to 10 inches. Really like the ATX.

Returned atx

I like how the Garrett ATX is easy to operate. However, it is very, very heavy and, thus, uncomfortable to be swinging for hours. Another problem is connecting the headset to the detector box: the two very tiny, male prongs on the headset cord look fragile and are extremely hard to line up with the female fitting in the detector box. I cannot imagine plugging and unplugging the headset each time that this detector is used. I took a long time to connect the headset to the detector box, and then I was not sure that the two tiny prongs had not been damaged in the process. I would have kept this detector despite its heavy weight, but connecting the headset was nearly impossible for me - very aggravating, so I returned the detector.
