One of the bests ! ( The best ?? )
December 21, 2004
Super sensitivity, all
ground - exceptional in forests, good for the beach and black sand
operations, superb Build quality, water
resistant, extra light, ..etc I was finding smalls targets at over 10 inches deep. Pinpointing is also very easy. It's easy to operate and discriminates very well.
Highly Recommended for serious finders.

Troy X5 ... a deep detecting machine ...
December 21, 2004
I have used many
detectors over the years and found the Shadow series has always been a hot
performer. It will detect deeper than just about any other detector.
The controls are well thought out and cover just about every condition you will encounter.
It is even weatherproof in case you get caught out in the rain.
It is expensive for a non-visuial detector but it is made by Fisher and has a lifetime warranty and there are some used ones around.
This is one HOT detector and is ideal for those places that get searched a lot as it can find those targets other detectors can not see.

Troy Shadow X5
September 24, 2004
I have been using my Troy Shadow X5 for
several months now and have been impressed with the performance and quality
of this machine. It is
simply one of the best built metal detectors I have ever owned. The X5 is deadly on coins and relics. Small, and I mean small gold, copper and lead items can't get away from it. Small brass fish hooks and small lead split shot fishing weights are common finds around lakes and beaches. The pinpointing feature is excellent with the large spider coil that ships stock with the X5.
This detector is as light as they come and a pleasure to swing for extended periods of time. It is also water resistant so you can use it in the rain or spray and not have to worry with covers. The controls are well thought out and easy to use.
The one complaint I do have is the size and throw of the target check toggle switch. It wears on you finger after a few hours if you are not wearing some kind of glove. The shaft of the toggle switch could have been a bit bigger, longer and rounded to make it more comfortable.
It does take a few hours to get used to the X5 but once you begin to have some confidence in the machine it's a snap to tell memorial pennies from wheat pennies with the Target Check Switch.
All in all it's a nice machine. A bit high priced but should last for many years of serious metal detecting.
