Gold Bug DP Pro - First impressions
September 06, 2011
Just bought this great machine - confess I have only used it once for 1
hour on the beach but found 12 coins at various depths ranging from just
beneath the surface to 9 inches.I have owned the Garrett 250, Minelab Etrac, Sovereign GT, Explorer SE Pro, Tesoro Vaquero and The Laser Hawkeye - But all had varying issues which resulted in me selling them. I am not knocking any of these machines but on first impressions the Gold Bug seems to be the perfect machine for me.
It is lightweight. Easy to switch on and go yet it is a serious machine. I bought it for all round use and have so far found it to be the easiest of all the machines I have used on the beach. It works well on dry, wet and black sand. I used it in discrimination mode at 20 which cut out iron nails. The target ID numbers locked onto the target and remained constant with each pass. I could easily identify modern coinage and also found the depth to be accurate.
Ground balancing was quick and easy and pinpointing was spot on. I turned the gain to practically full on and the machine still remained quiet. Moving to the wet sand just required a quick ground balance and off I went. The machine is extremely quiet between targets, non of those confusing multi tones.
I air tested the Gold bug for sensitivity to small gold items and it detected everything including fine trace chains. None of the other machines I owned matched this sensitivity to gold.
Tomorrow I will be testing it on pastureland. I am confident from what I have seen so far that the Gold bug will prove equally as good on land.
Still have a lot to learn about this machine but I know I will enjoy getting to know it better.
