Best pinpointer I have tried

LilloEsquilo in Janesville, WI - best
I have used Vibraprobe (460 and 560), White's Bullseye, Little Wizard, and Detector Pro Pistol Probe for comparison, as well as the Sunray probes that attach to the detector.

Those probes all work, and have their own strengths. But this is the best I've tried. I knew 15 seconds after picking it up it was a winner. It is compact and light, but solid. Just turn on one button and turn it off when you are done with it. Depth is OUTSTANDING. I was getting 3 inches on a nickle in my house next to electronics equipment. The sound and vibration increase as you get closer to the object. The battery is easy to replace - no tools needed and is a single 9 volt. The unit can be submerged in water is what Garrett says.

Cons? Not many to be honest. Some might find the sound almost too loud as it might attract urchins in parks or worse in older neighborhoods (though hunting there is hazardous anyway). And yes, it will detect along the rod as well as at the tip, like every other pinpointer I tried. So that will require a bit more effort not to get fooled but Garrett's included a small booklet with instructions on how to use it that cover that and everything you would want to know.

I had just bought a Detector Pro Pistol Probe and given away a Vibra Probe 560 as I wanted more depth. The Pistol Probe had the depth too, but I could not make it work stable and get more depth than the Garrett and the Garrett has no knobs to fuss with and was smaller and lighter (but still felt more solid).

Bottom line is, this is my pinpointer from here on out. I have been wanting something with more depth and good ease of use and stability for some time and this fits the bill and it is no more than the rest as far as cost.

the best out there

damon abernathy in cartersville ga - best
I have 26 years experence metal detecting. I have used the vg2 and 4, also whites bulleyes 1 and 2, and this is my third pinpointer as far as brand. This is by far the best one I have used it has more depth than both whites pinpointers easy, and it does easy beat the vg2 and 4. The whites you have two be almost tuching the target to get a responce, hard to believe as I own and love the whites mxt detector. The vg4 is good but its way two big just gets in your way trying two detect, plus it has no backlight.

The garret is easy the best, probably 3 times more depth plus a back light for night hunting and very water resistant trust me this is the best pinpointer out there. My 2 detectores I use are whites mxt, and tesoro deleon so I am not brand loyal.

3rd Time is a charm..

Poorman in Oregon in West of Portland, Oregon - best
I had two other Pinpointers when I purchased the Garrett Pro Pointer. I had issues with both. As soon as I took the Garrett out of the Box I was impressed. It felt strong and slightly heavy in my hand. It also felt very comfortable in my hand. Kind of like a good top quality Custom Hunting Knife I have.

I took it out for the first time on a nasty Oregon day and proceeded to get it totally caked with sticky mud. I never bothered to clean it while hunting, as I wanted it to die early if it was going to die at all. It stayed alive and amazed me at the depth it was getting in the water saturated turf. I was picking up coins, mostly zinc pennies at 2+ inches. I done everything I could think of to make this probe quit. When I couldn't get a signal, I just pushed harder on the probe until I picked up something. I wouldn't dare have pushed on my other probes like that. I brought it home and washed it off under the faucet. Really, I drenched it. No problem. I prefer the feature of having to turn it on and off. I love how it vibrates slowly and becomes a faster vibration as you get closer to the target. With my hard of hearing problem, I can still hear the beep also.

Oh yes, the other two Pinpointers I had, one costing more than the Garrett and the other slightly less, they are history, gone, sold. If I get a back up pinpointer, how could I ever need one, it will be another Garrett Pro Pointer.

Garrett Pocket Probe

Scothman in Ukiah, California - one star
I bought the pinpointer just after they hit the market. Have used it for about 20 hrs of detecting.
Here is what I noticed. It is light and easy to handle, will stand some water summarizing, fair depth about 1" max in my area. Don't like the fact that it will detect on the side of the probe not just the point. Having to turn on and off each time is some what a pain.

Garrett Pro-Pointer....One Great Pinpointer!

Cyril in Colorado, USA - best
I have owned several different pinpointing probes and still have three different ones in my collection. Some of them were really sensitive and some you almost had to touch the target to get a response. I saw a review recently of a really sensitive one and the user dug a hole large enough to plant a tree. It is no wonder so many areas are being closed to detecting. I thought a pinpointer was suppose to help us dig smaller holes?? Of all the ones that I have had, I think the sensitivity of the Garrett Pro-Pointer is perfect for my detecting style. It is sensitive enough to detect tiny gold ear rings and gold nuggets as small as 2 or 3 grains.

Sense I use headphones I really love the vibration that increases as you get closer to the target. I especially like the fact that it handle rain, slop and an ocassional dunking. The O-ring seal on the battery cover was my first clue that it was capable of handling a wet environment. Since I use headphones I put a piece of Scotch tape over the speaker vent to add a little extra moisture protection. I hunt into the dark evening hours from time to time and the LED light a very useful tool. It just plain feels good in your hand and definitly has a quality rugged feel.

It slips in and out of the holster very easy, almost to easy. If it gets turned wrong in can fall out. I generally just carry it in my pants pocket.

As I said in the title, I think this is one Great
Pinpointer.

God Bless and HH
