The quattro

May 20, 2005
The music machine, not to bad on pasture/ploughed.But get it on anything trashy, and the flute music begins all at once. For pinpointing i would give it 7 out of 10,still needs to be improved and has good depth. And VERY slow recovery time between targets. Not tried it on a beach so cant comment, but it is nothing special imo.

Awesome beach machine!

April 27, 2005

The Quattro just amazes me on the beach,I run it in all metal usually on max senitivity(20),the whole key to this machine is the pinpiont feature.
When you get a signal switch to pinpoint and watch
the bar graphs rise as you sweep your coil over the target, the secret is in DIGGING ANY SIGNAL that gives a REPEATABLE rise of the bar-graphs
NO MATTER HOW SMALL THE RISE,folks I am talking about the bar-graphs barely lifting a hairs breath!
Even the most infinitesimal rise in the graphs if repeatable means there is a target deep in the sand,I regularly dig big old copper pennys from up to 2 feet in the wet sand!!!,but folks you will not ever do this unless you dig the very faint signals I have described, any signals that make the bar-graphs rise fully are either shallow or very big.
The Quattro is the best machine I have ever used on the beach and you will have to pry it from my cold dead hands to get it off me!

Best so far.

April 19, 2005
Ihave been using metal detectors for over 35 years and used all brands and most models.
I can in all honesty state that the Quattro is one deep seeking machine, very easy to use and not at all heavy. It is a switch on and go machine as well as being super sensetive and deep if you hunt in manual.
I hunt at manual setting 18/19 whichever remains stable and get a few more inches depth than in auto.
pinpointing is a dawdle with the new graph system.
If you have lots of iron nulls then try it in high trash setting this works o.k. on some iron infested sites.
Is also superb on wet sand beaches and outperforms nearly all other machines both depth wise and stability wise.
To sum up listen to the tones and what they tell you,use the meter to verify only.
I would not trade this machine for any other.
Please all read Andy Sabisch book on quattro.
It is invaluable.
I would reccomend the Quattro without reservation.
Hope this helps.
Regards Paul.

Minelab Quatro Eval.

April 02, 2005
The performance is better than any detector I have ever owned. I was surprised at how coil heavy the Quatro was after assembling the unit, but quickly got used to it.
My only problem, so far, is pinpointing a target with the double-D coil. I'm sure I'll eventually figure this out, with practice.
I strongly suggest getting the book "Mastering the Quatro" if you have, or plan to buy, a Quatro. It gives far more information on programming, fine tuning, and hunting techniques than the Operators Manual.

So Far So good.

March 25, 2005
I have had the Quattro for a few days now and I like it. I am having some problems with pin pointing, but i feel I need more practice. Some people have commented on the weight, I dont think its all that heavy, I think its more of a balance issue. The Coil feels heavier than the control and I think this is why people have issues. It dosent bother me at all. I am very pleased with the unit. I have a Whites XLT as well and I was always getting pull tabs, so far no tabs with my Quattro. Both Machines are great, I just prefer the Quattro a little more. I would suggest the "Mastering the Minelab Quattro" book, its very helpful and I'm sure I will be updating my review to 5 stars once I get better with my machine.

Minelab Quattro MP

I purchased this detector just three days ago. My wife, Ellen and I live near Daytona Beach and find this to be an excellent location to test our respective machines. I should say, first, that I use a Minelab Excaliber 800. I have been involved in metal detecting for about 30 years so I have a little experience to relate to. My wife had been using another product, which shall go un-named, and she was not to happy with the machine.

We decided to purchase the Quattro after visiting Kellyco in Winter Springs, Florida. In short, we are both very happy with the new detector. It is easy to set up, light to use, and very responsive to the beach environment. Just today, Ellen recoved a penny from a depth of at least 15 inches of dry sand. She also got a 1944 silver dime from a deep hiding place. It seems to give accurate target identification and depth. Well, time will tell, we intend to drag it all over the state looking for old coins and jewlery. If anyone id looking for a "used underwater metal detector" at a real good price, contact me.

I have several metal detectors, so far the Quattro is by far the best detector I have ever used. The quattro is hard to get the hang of, I guess I cant say hard! you just have to know what you are doing. When I find something, I take my other detectors and see if they will pick up what I find with my Quattro and they wont.

Just yesterday I found a 110 year old penny 12 inches in the ground along with several other coins and some shotgun shells in other locations, so far I have had it around two weeks and have found 50 coins of all types. But remember you have to learn how to use it well before you can really find deep objects. I will find the mother load with my Quattro it is just a matter of time.

Minelab Quattro

I have never used a metal detector before I bought the Quattro. I tested a few coins and pull tabs within the first 15 minutes after I put it together. It seemed easy enough, so, off I went to the park. That was two weeks ago. Since then, I've unearthed close to $10 in coins, several sterling silver charms, some kids toys, a shotgun shell and a few other uninteresting things.

Assembly - It couldn't be easier. 15 minutes.

Manual - Too basic. It needs to contain some
"real world" advice.

Ease of Use - If I can figure it out, anyone can!

Pinpointing - Pretty accurate by my account.

Customer Support ( Minelab ) - Slow to respond to
questions from their "Pros". The Quattro manual
and tips have yet to be activated - Bad form Minelab!

Overall, I am happy with this detector. I give it four stars because I don't know any better. This week, I will move from Arizona parks and schools
to a river area and some fields that I've been
watching.

Good depth and so easy to use. Pre-programmed modes straight from the box work well on the beach. I have had two coins from in the region of 10" deep on wet sand. I have more faith in it's depth capabilities than my DFX or MXT. The only
downsides are the weight and pinpoint which is not as accurate as the Whites machines. The Whites target id seems better too but overall a super machine that is definitely suited to the beaches in the UK.

Only got a chance to use Quattro once so far for 3hrs. Easy to use, good depth, easy to pinpoint, and very stable. Out of box digging coins 7" no problem in preset modes. Its a keeper for me. Good Hunting
