Great machine (if you can get over
having it back at the repair shop most of the time).Like a Ferrari, looks great, but the maintenance costs would be horrific if it weren't for the fact that Minelab repair free of charge even out of warranty.
If you've had an XLT or DFX and don't reckon they're as good, you're setting them up wrong. Sure the Explorer is deep, but what use is that when you can't use it half the time?
It's WAY overpriced too, but then again most machines are ;-{

EXII

The Ex II is a good machine not a great machine it very
heavy and you have to move very slow. I took it to the old hunted out spot
with a few friends and there
detectors nothing was found. If you are a good detectorist and you use any
of the high end detectors you
will find whats in the ground, when a person say's "I found coins my old
machine missed". Especially the
Whites, Garrett 1500, Fisher, Troy etc. users they were just mediocre
detectorists who did not know how
to use there detectors properly to beging with and because of the high
price of the EXII they concentrated
on the area a little more to justify the purchase with there EXII. I traded mine for a DFX its lighter, just as deep, and faster than an over exagerated EXII we have hunted with over 30 minelab users and none has found more coins or deeper than we have. save $200.00 and buy a DFX.

Explorer II Metal Detector

The Explorer II is by far the finest
all-around Detector on the Planet! I have used a number of detectors over
the Years and The E-II is still
pulling targets out of the ground That I and others have pounded for many
Years This Detector is a
Masterwork in the field of metal sensing Technology THANKS MINELAB
ps. the learning curve isnt as bad as some make it out to be and after a few months You can easily master this machine However I do recommend getting a copy of The Andy Sabisch Book Mastering The Minelab Explorer XS+S it will provide You with quick cut to the chase programming instructions to start making quality finds from DAY_ONE!

I found this machine to be very user
friendly. It does overload you with info at first but you soon learn to
listen and look while using it. Depth is
great and pin pointing is dead on. The tubular pole and internal cable are
also a very nice feature. Overall Rating

This is the best detector out there bar
none! Target ID is the best in the market. Since learning to use this
machine, I dig very little trash. There
is a great selection of coils from Sunray, Coiltek, Detech and Minelab. The
X1 probe is the bomb. Depth
is almost unbelievable. Downside, the learning curve on this detector is steep. A lot of research or proper tutoring by an experienced user is needed to get the most of it. Thats why it only get 4 stars.
I have had this detector for almost a year and I think I have only tapped 80% of its capabilities. I would not even consider buying another detector unless I already had one of these.
