It does the Job
I do a lot of relic hunting, park hunting and water hunting.....So the at pro should fit in just fine.
Long story short, it gets good depth in pro mode, I found some deep coins at 8" and they had a good solid tone/beep. So I would say it can find a large cent at 8+ inches.
It hits lower tone items like colonial buttons, nickels and gold hard. It seems rugged, its a little coil heavy but the DD coil works good, you will dig some iron but in time you can learn not to and once you get used to pin pointing its a breeze.
I like to run in pro mode in all metal for the most part. I used it at the ocean in dry sand, it worked great, then used it in wet sand, well it still worked but not as good as the minelabs, you need to really turn down the sen and turn the disc up around foil to make it run quite.
I used it in fresh water up to my chest and it preformed well, no leaks yet!
Digging in deep water with a scoop is challenging enough so I can see where people can get frustrated if they don't find any thing good.
At that point you need to know the detector because your not looking at the screen, your going by the sounds of the tones.
Why four stars well its priced right for a all terrain detector that gets good depth, no detector is perfect, but you get a lot of bang for your buck here. By the way the first few weeks using this detector I really didn't like it, but now I got used to and can run it good,a nd it gives back good performance and finds.

2 months and 2 returns on warranty
On land, the AT Pro lives up to the hype with great depth, a DD coil that has broad coverage, and variations to 3 tones that mimic more robust high-end machine.
However, in the water, the AT Pro is hit or miss. While some users have had success using the AT Pro in water, my personal experience has been that 2 separate machines have both failed under water, requiring a return under Garrett's warranty. Granted, Garrett is great with customer service and provides a replacement in a reasonable amount of time. However, there comes a point where you begin to lose confidence in the the quality of the workmanship. My experience is not unique. A seemingly high percentage of AT Pro detectorists to date have had issues with quality ranging from falsing to leaky housings to faulty sound cards.
A year from now, Garrett will hopefully have the kinks worked out. But for now, you may have to rely heavily on the warranty which can be very inconvenient if you counting on your machine while on vacation or on a special trip, as I was, when your AT Pro hits the skids.

AT pro worth the money.
This detector is really nice,I have found many more coins between Iron and junk like a minelab I suppose. I almost bought a Safari but got this instead because of the lower price and weight.
I haven't had any problems with mine, I haven't put mine under water either.
I do wish the speaker was louder so I wear the earphones. Thinking of modifying to different ones so I can hear other things going on around me.
I am impressed how stable the thing is even with sensitivity way up! Weird thing though is it will sound off even when some things are disced out.

I'm glad I got this one.
I have had this detector for several months now and have used it on land as well as at the beach with success. I have been hitting and digging more nickels with this machine than with the others I have used in the past (Tesoro and Bounty Hunter). More nickel recoveries leads to more ring recoveries.
Other detectors I have used with Target ID's left me digging aluminum cans when registering as quarters. Not this one. Combined with the double D coil it is very easy to weed those pesky cans out.
The downside of the AT Pro that I found was the shaft. No posi-locks or cam-locks. This can lead to play in the shaft, I added aftermarket cam-locks.
The AT-Pro was plagued with problems when first released, but Garrett seems to have cleaned these problems up. Make sure you get one that the serial # starts with 511 and higher.
I've read the reviews here so far... and to each their own.... but the AT Pro is not a "Ace 450". Several of the issues I've read about so far are very possibly user based. Setting the sensitivity correctly and ground balancing usually solves the chattering issues, especially in areas of high mineralization and areas close to EM fields.

AT Pro has passed all my tests and it's a fine machine!
And show me one that has a screen full of information like the AT Pro. There isn't any or any other detector in this class, Garrett is the first. And like with all other firsts there will be bugs and dud's.
Also Garrett took time to put in features that are truly theirs, Garrett hasn't stolen any technology. If that was the case then everything you buy has technology that was stolen from computers to cell phones, right?
I've had all the top F series and they were disappointing as well, screen problems, and upgrades and changes that also require sending them back. And I can honestly say that there turn around time was way longer than Garretts.
So if there is another detector out there that can do everything the AT Pro can then compare that one side by side with it. Until then there isn't another like it and I along with many, many other AT Pro owners are completely satisfied like I'm.
I just wish it was out before I wasted hundreds of dollars on high end machines that get the same depth and do the same thing. All I can say is if you want one buy one and see for yourself, the hype is real, there fantastic!
Again I give it a four star rating cause no detector is perfect but this one comes darn close.

Nothing but troubles with at pro from Garrett
I bought a new master hunter cx several years ago and it was the same...cheap plastic junk that didn't work good at all.
For all the people thinking about buying an at pro you better think twice unless you enjoy sending it back to be fixed every other week or so cause that will be the case. So far I had problems with the detector being erratic when hunting, pinpoint quit working and to top it all off it leaked in a light rainstorm. So much for being waterproof to 10 feet.
Maybe they should rename the at pro and call it the ANOTHER TURD PRO cause that name fits it much better.....lol. Garrett detectors sucked years ago and they suck even worse now.
