Not too bad
April 01, 2005
let me preface this by saying i am a beach hunter and have tried the 2500
exclusively on the beach.PROS:
*The fit and finish/construction quality was top notch.
*Dry sand conditions/low mineralization using all metal fast track mode went really deep!
*Garrett offers a "Tall Man Rod" for taller users
CONS:
*Wet salty sand performance was not that great, and the Salt mode didn't do anything.
*Does not do that well in black sand/mineralized conditions.
*a tad on the heavy side
*jumpy target i.d.
*didn't do too well in trashy areas.
my bottom line:
overall not a bad detector in my opinion, but not my first choice for beach hunting given the price, unless you run it in all metal for scary depth on dry sand low trash conditions.
A tad expensive, but not all that bad. For that kind of money though i would probably get an Explorer, or Fisher CZ first.

Garrett 2500 FANTASTIC
March 28, 2005
I have had the machine a few weeks now and it is a great piece of
electronics. At first look it can be intimidating, but if you want quality
you have to spend a little time learning/reading. It is realtively easy to
learn though and depth is very good. I live in an area with a lot of clay
and it appears to have no problem with that. I have a Bounty Hunter that
works well also, but the 2500 is GREAT.3 signatures back on the my property deed is William Penn and part of our land was where a stage coach used to stop, I have found a few items with my old Bounty Hunter, and expect to find a lot more now with the 2500.

Great Machine, Service and Company

Have been using Garretts for 6 yrs, first a 1000 then a 1500 and now a
2500, once you spend the time to learn them they are amazing, although
easily used it takes a lot of practice to read and interpret the info.
Pinpointing is great, I like the allmetal mode with the 12.5 imaging coil
for plowed fields predominately. Great service, Mary at Garrett is
amazing!!

I've owned one for a year and must say
that I'm not as excited about it as I was when I first bought it. Its best
feature is its pinpointing mode
which is very good and easy to use; however, the pinpointing button can
sometimes get stuck, and you
have to wiggle it to disengage it -- a very frustrating thing when you've
swept an area and realized that
you've been in the wrong mode the whole time. It's quite heavy, and the weight is poorly distributed to the coil end. Garrett says you can detach the battery pack and clip it on your belt to reduce the overall weight, but that makes it even more front-heavy.
I have to run in All-metal mode to get good depth; I miss too many targets in Discrim mode. The imaging feature is interesting, but can be easily fooled. The multi-tone only works in Discrim mode, but there are too few tones to be helpful. When using All-metal mode, you get only one tone. Volume of the tone is the same for all targets, regardless of target signal strength.
I'm now looking for another detector and leaning toward a Minelab Explorer II or Tesoro Cortes.

I think the gti 2500 is overhyped. I have had
one for 8 months and it is not all that I expected. Imaging only works to
5-6'' on coin sized objects. When using descrimination thats about the depth you will get also, 5-6'' on coins. I will say if you relic hunt the all metal goes deep but in most areas where I coin hunt all-metal is too frustrating to use with all the trash.
