More hype than substance

Simply put, you don't spend
$1000 to play with programs in hopes of making your metal detector work.
The DFX may in fact prove to
be an ok machine someday for me. But, in the mean time, don't waste your
money. Pick another model,
like the XLT, or go to a different brand.Borrow, steal, or rent the machine you hope to purchase, before you do, and try it in a known coin garden. If the machine dosn't work in a planted garden, why would it work in the field?
In this case, the DFX has not been able to find 9 coins, 4 clad at eight inches, and 4 more at six. Quarters, nickels, dimes, and pennies in that order. Except with one wheatie for giggles at six.
The soil in my test garden is clayish, and clean of iron. So, if a $99 radio shack knows where the coins are (doesn't know what though), then the DFX should at ten times the price right??? Errrrr, uh,, nope!!!!!
The $99 Radio Shack doesn't need to be tweeked, or a favorite program loaded.. Time spent farting around with programs could better be spent finding old coins with a good machine. And no, I am not trying to sell Rad Shack stuff either. But, that model that was on clearance for the past year outperforms the DFX , and also the more expensive Rad Shack models, and a couple from Fisher as well in my garden .
Leave the DFX to those who also like the Whites Bullseye pinpointer.. Another cute little black box that doesn't work too well either. They should give one away to every sucker who buys a DFX. ALSO,, TELL WHITES TO KEEP THEIR 14" DD Eclipse coil. It doens't work, and is not stable.. SEE HOW MANY HAVE SOLD ALREADY ON EBAY??? Proof for you.. If the "new" coil and DFX are so great, why are they being sold in such numbers??? Caveat Emptor. Also, Whites should tripple the warranty cause it may take that long to learn how to use the DFX effectively

The dfx with a big foot or hot foot coil is the best
coin and jewelry finding machine for any price. The sock coil is good but I
can run he others a lot hotter.

experience, will work everywhere, can be adjusted to do about anything, one

Good weight compared to Minelabs.
Easy to set up and use. I changed the beach
program twice in 2 days to suit my site
conditions and preferences. I gained a
couple of inches extra depth straight away
and I am not gifted when it comes to
learning technology ..... it is very easy to
reprogram and use straight from the box if
you don't fancy fiddling! The target id
actually seems to get it right most of the time.
It is very stable on wet sand but doesn't like being stuck in water. Pinpoint is super with
standard coil. Good for the beach and well
balanced. I have only used it twice but it
doesn't intimidate and looks to have
countless possibilities if you want to
experiment. If you don't then thats fine by it
to.....

Well, after owning my DFX for ONLY a month
now and learning it's incredible features, I can't say enough great things
about it. This detector FAR
exceeds the capabilities and performance of all my 8 previous! (INCLUDING
most of the other big brand
names you'd expect.)The DFX does take some time, effort, and DESIRE to learn but with only 4 weeks with it, I've been able to selectively and successfully search and FIND more SPECIFIC targets than ever before!
I sure wish this excellent detector would have been my 1st...however, this technology was only dreamed about 16 years ago when I got into this fun & rewarding hobby!
Don't get me wrong...there's a lot of good & less expensive detectors out there. But if you can shell out the money, and have a real desire to REALLY enjoy this wonderful hobby, AND...you can read and understand, YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THE DFX!!! It really is an amazing piece of equipment. Thanks White's!!!
